Why ISO 9001 metal fabrication is a process, not a plaque
ISO 9001 does not certify a part. Instead, it certifies that the shop runs a documented system for producing parts, and that an outside registrar checks the system on a schedule rather than taking our word for it.
Documented procedures
How a job moves from quote to shipment is written down, which is what makes a repeat release come back the same as the first one.
Outside audits
NQA audits the system on a set cycle. Because the registration lapses if the system is not maintained, it has to stay live rather than sit in a binder.
Supplier approval
Most military, aerospace, and medical buyers require a registered supplier before a PO can issue. The certificate is usually the first document they ask for.
